Evaluation Question 2 (Ancillary Tasks and Main Task)

How effective is the combination of your main product and ancillary task?

IN TERMS OF THE TWO ANCILLARY TASKS:

Compared to other genre magazines, film magazines are less compact and focus solely one movie star. To make our product tangible we decided to take this route as our cast is fairly big. This one star 'Pat Adioo' was   the link between the two tasks. Both the tasks have contrasting concepts, to ensure the deliberate reasons are known to the audience, the text '' totally stripped from glamour in new film'' explains this. As well as people wanting to know about the actress, they get to know about the new film also. Boldly the name of the film is feature in the top third of the magazine; drawing more attention to this section of the magazine is a snapshot of the featured poster of the main cast of Affliction, strengthening the connection and link between the two productions.

Overall I feel that the combination of the products is at a good level due to the reasons stated above. However the link would of been stronger if the magazine cover had similar mise en scene qualities as the other two products - trailer and poster. Yet my reasons for doing this is justified because of the actress, film name and poster. As well as repetition, recognition leads to expectation -Burton.

Creating the scene

My partner and I instructing the victim

Adding a blood trail to the scene to try and make it that more real

Another demand of the A2 course is being able to organise your actors so the type of mood you want to portray is clearly visible to the audience.

Equipment used

Similar was equipment was used in both the AS and A2 stage:

Camera:

For the Ancillary Tasks- my partner and I used;

Canon 1000 D

For the Photo shoot, produced great quality photographs.

Originally we used an Cannon Camcorder for the trailer

Then for HD quality switched to a Olympus E-5 Digital SLR

Tripod:

Used to steady the camera while filming and helps with certain camera movement.

Lighting:

We opted with natural lighting for the Theatrical Poster, the photo shoot was during the summer months so pictures being too dark was not an issue. We also used the weather to our advantage and created shadows to present my models in certain way.

However for the making of the trailer we used torches to light up the scene (during the times we filmed in the night) as well using street lights which created a sodium lighting affect:

Some footage was shot indoors, we used lamps to create an flashing effect,

 Reflectors

Controlled level of light.

Film making process 2

After setting the mood of the trailer, my partner and I needed to showcase our actors in the location.

Some of the  footage we played in reverse, to convey a message of regret.

There are various low angles used in the trailer, this is used as sense of control of the audience and will make them uneasy of what will happen next. In this particular shot we used a rose filter to add the apporpriate colour as it goes well with the grim setting.

From the lighting research, it was very important that sodium lighting was included. This usually occurs when filming at night.

To make the viewer more involved with the story we included angles that made them seem like an onlooker of events in the trailer. Again sodium lighting is used, helps create a pensive mood.
As well of using quite dark colours, we also used light, bright and striking colours to represent times of happniess.

We wanted include things like the name of the film and the release date at the end of the trailer, not just due to research, but so the audience can remeber this vital details when watching it.

Serif MoviePlus

Half way through the editing process of our trailer as a group we decided to change software as we used a different camera in our re-shoots, it was not compatible with Premier Elements. I do feel this was good decision as I felt it was easier to use.

Film making process 1

Using an extreme close-up, used to show emotion which is stated in my research. Using a black and white filter I feels convey regret on events in the past. Adding this effect was quite simple.

As a key part of this film is time Changing the speed I feel is a effective way of showing a difficultly of retracing steps, increasing the speed so much creates some sort of blur effect. As well as helping the viewer establish the setting

An establishing shot featured at the start of the trailer, however may need to be replaced as it does not fit well with other shots.

Opening of the trailer, straight away the audience will know the film is set in a city. The following shot should expose more about the the setting.

Class Feedback

After creating our first draft of our trailer, I showed the film to the class. My peers then told me the positives about my trailer and also some criticisms. This was extremely important as my partner and I was going reshoot some parts of the trailer and these comments could help boost our marks.

Here is an example:

Organising Actresses

A key aspect of this coursework was getting my actresses together. Througout the process of the coursework I had to make sure that I had regular contact with them. This was possible through text, Below is an example:

A back up was facbook where I could group message all the individuals I needed:

General Feedback

As well as class feedback which we had the opportunity to get throughout the process of the course, We took the advantage to use social networking sites from last year I learnt that young people lack interest in questionnaires. I needed to get feed back to what is relevant to them:
       Facebook

        Twitter

  Blackberry Messenger

Main Positives:
  • The Two ancillary Tasks got very positive feedback especially the poster. The audience liked the layout and the levels the models were positioned on.

Main Criticisms:
  • Lighting in some scenes in the Trailer
  • Some sequences of the trailer could get confusing when in reverse.
We dealt with issues quite easily with re shooting and organising the film on Serif Movie Plus that all clips in reverse were played forward. We kept the reverse effect to emphasis regret. Some part were a bit dark to add suspense
