Photograph Research

Before starting our own poster for our film and taking our own photographs. I researched and analysed different position, poses and settings to help ensure that our final product will relate to the genre that we are trying to portray.

Picture 1

This photograph has been taken in an urban, rough and gritty area. Affliction is also set in similar settings. As location is important in our film I feel that it will make much more of an impact to use a photo like this featuring where the film will be set. However in this particular picture there is a lack of space to position text. For example the name of the film, producers and who is staring in the film; It is important that the name of the film and the realse date is clear. Nevertheless I like how the girls are positioned on different levels, with their distinctly different coloured clothing shows them as individuals even though they are a group which will be a excellent aspect to add to our own design.

Picture 2

The same group of girls from picture one, with an additional character. I like how their faces are on camera level and on the audience level. These characters are just like you and me. But the expression on their faces is not inviting, showing the seriousness, the girls are also carrying weapons giving the impression that they are threatening. Again there is limited space to add text.

Picture 3

In this photo there more open space to add the necessary text for a theatrical poster. But again the facial expressions are not approachable. The colours are dark and grim. For our poster there should be a theme of dark colours included. As the plot of the story is very serious and emotional, as it is based on real events, it could happen to anyone. The stair case that they are is gritty and grimely which actually reflects the genre of the film. Again the backgroud and setting also aid to tell the story.

Picture 4

Even though this picture shows a group of boys, and our film is an based on a female cast. I feel that the use of the setting is added to help to tell the story or situation that these boys may be in. I want this aspect to be applied to our poster. I like the the graffti on the walls which has been featured in the photograph as this is a form of expression it also adds colour and life, however will take away from what the film and genre is about. The use of browns, gery and black is needed.
