Editing Techniques

A large majority of the trailers that I have watched have quick and fast beats meaning that out filming must be cut to it making the images more affective

One example I found was from Shaun of the Dead displaying Edgar Wright's quick-cut.

14-19 Seconds of the clip below show strobe lighting, applied to text, The same affect can be used on people to show uneasiness. It is also complementing the music, This is carried on to the opening credits of the film. Even the movement of the text flowed well with the music.

Transitions

To create the right shots, we knew that it was essential to have the right transitions and to make sure that the transitions flowed. I looked into the different transitions that are conventions in the type of trailer we wanted to create. I learnt that one of the most important transitions are the cuts, they are very effective in revealing tension, or creation a dramatic scene. Having the right cuts, could be the difference between a very good trailer, and a weak one.

It was most important that we were able to achieve the right cuts that together made a sequence that made absolute sense.

We made a quick transition into a scene that went along with this one and that still communicated the story line.

We added to the sequence so the audience were aware of what the girls were looking at, and who they were chasing. It was very important to achieve clarity when making the sequence. We wanted our audience to be very clear about what was happening. We added more into the sequence too give a better understanding.

We also looked at the effects of different fades in our trailer.

The effects that a fade creates like tensions and mystery, were very much needed to create our trailer.

We used the fade in various scenes
