Soundtrack Research

Majority of trailers today have a voiceover trying to sell the new release to their target audience. For my trailer my group chose to use a track which I feel more effective for the type of film we are selling, I personally feel that using fewer words as possible is more effective especially if the theme is serious. Here is a perfect example from one of the saw trailers:

 The music speaks itself setting a tense mood for the film. The little words featured it adds to to the tension and suspense made by the soundtrack. I would want something similar to this in my trailer.

Using our own knowledge of music and the help of youbtube we thought of the song that fitted our film and also extra other sounds and music that we could mix together with the song to add that extra impact. For example screams- we looked at the famous 'wilhelm scream' which had been featured in a number of hollwood films since the 1950s but found that this did not fit well with our pictured trailer. We decided to either create our own or find and alternative.

For the opening 18 seconds we found a piece of music off youtube to set the scene then we agreed to use a song by Chase and Status featuring Plan B called End Credits for the majority of the trailer we picked this song as it compliments the action of the film, even though we are using the instrumental the words tell a story similar to our film choice; finally we wanted to end with a scream. Sections of the trailer then may be scripted words from the cast.
