Final Magazine Cover

Final Magazine Cover Process

New Magazine Cover

Final Design

I decided to use this magazine cover for the reason that it provided me with a lot more room and also much more room to extend the image, it was I believe less awkward. Also because the image was in black and white it gave me more of a choice of what I could make the theme.

The process again...

Drawings

I extended the right side of the image so that it would give me enough room to put things that I thought I would need into the magazine.

Draft Magazine Cover Process

NEXT....

I used this theme because my magazine research showed that in each magazine there is a running theme of about 4 colours, I decided to pick colours that blended in with the magazine, but that also made the magazine stand out. At the top here you can see that I incorporated the same sort of title they use in their magazine also into mine.

Similarly in the magazine research that I looked at the writing on the bottom or side of the page, I decided to change that element of my magazine a bit, because I wanted to make sure that it fitted in with my picture.

To make the magazine realistic I decided to add different phrases and words that would catch a by standers attention and will make them want to read the magazine. I also blended it in with the colour of the magazine title, because it showed a running theme in the magazine, which made it more presentable, and it looked extremely more appealing.

In the magazine there seemed to be a lot missing in the sense of gaps and space on the magazine, I did further research which helped me decide to advertise free posters in the magazine, this made it more worth the price, and people would buy it.

The magazine I was making was meant to be advertising the film trailer that we were making, so I decided to take the film cover and to put it into my front of the magazine, this way everything was going according to plan, and there were links between all the tasks.

MAGAZINE COVER

This was my final magazine cover, I was really pleased with the outcome as a lot of the things were thought through like the use of using the image on the side that would advertise the film as well as attract people to go and see it, also the fact that my model was also featured in the film made it better because the inside of the magazine supposedly would have an interview from her. I made the picture look glamorous because I wanted it to be evident that she was a rich famous holly wood actress, and she is coming to act in the typical modern day film. These were all features that I thought would appeal to my target audience. However some things in the magazine did not work out as well, after having a lengthy look at my magazine cover, I realised that there were many elements that I also did not like much about my magazine, for example, I felt like, although many parts of the magazine did, not all parts of the magazine obeyed the rule of thirds, and also the more I looked at it, the more I found that the magazine didn't look busy enough, at the same time I thought there was too much on the magazine. The front cover did seriously leave me puzzled, so I decided to use one of my other images to see whether I could improve on the front cover, so I made another front cover from scratch.

WE MAKE A NEW DESIGN (SEEN IN FINAL MAGAZINE PROCESS)

Photographs for the Magazine

The covers I looked at were very glamorous so we used newspaper to make a piece of clothing, to signify some new news or something that people would be missing out if they do not read. After taking these pictures I used Adobe photo shop to edit them and chose the one that I thought would be most appropriate for the film.

Number 1

I liked this image because it advertised one of the characters in the magazine, and it made them look glamorous, but I was afraid that it would make the magazine appeal only to females, but i wanted to attract a wider audience, including the males of the youth generation

Number 2

I also really liked this image because there was plenty room and space to put other things on the magazine cover, and I felt this would appeal to both male and female because there would be other elements on the cover that would distract them.

Number 3

I also liked this image because the black and white theme emphasized the newspaper effect we were doing, it also makes it seem more classic, and I felt that this one created more of a mystery so people may be interested to read it more, and unveil the mystery.

Number 4

This image was good as it also used the black and white made it mysterious, but because the model was positioned in the middle, I felt that it didn't leave enough room for other arrangements, also it made it appear like more of a fashion magazine rather than a movie magazine.

Number 5

This is also a good image however I feel that it will not target the right audience type because of the way the face is positioned, it will mostly attract females, and I would prefer if everyone was captivated into the magazine.

Image 6

Initially decided to use this image because of the room it gave me that I could use to place other things on the magazine cover. In the end I liked the red effect because it communicates the message of the film, about someone losing their life. I really was pleased with the outcome of this cover.

Final Image

This picture gave us more freedom with the colour scheme and again there was more space to place text around the model.

Magazine Research

For the magazine I researched the different Film Magazines that were known for advertising different films, and I found 'Total Film' It is quite a known magazine so it inspired me in my trying to create my magazine cover.

To back my research I used Total Films as a guide, I  tried to use their magazine to help me in the making of my own, there were some particular things that appealed to me when seeing their magazines, one was the way they had the 'total' in the middle of the 'film' that is something I would like to put in the front cover of my magazine. Also they had one or some of the characters that were featuring in the film in the cover of their magazine, I think using that would also be something good to add in my magazine. They also make the picture relate to the film in other ways such as the girl dressed as a cheerleader has something to do with the film. The have colour themes that help the magazine attract people, through the colours it is easy to read what kind of film it will be, this film is going to be something more happy and joyful. I particularly like the magazine layout because it makes the magazine presentable and doesn't ruin the magazine theme.

This particular magazine is what I preferred because of how the model is not in the centre of the front cover, but is on the side, but that does not take the focus from them, it makes the magazine more subtle and less extravagant and will still attract people to it. The colour theme on the magazine gives away what the film is about, the green shows that it is in a natural place, and I like the way the magazine is so much easier to read. Overall, I wanted to incorporate this type of design and layout into my magazine.

Shows a glamours side of the model. Applying this to my magazine means I am making the use of binary opposites. There is enough space so there is free movement of text and this needs to be taken under consideration in the photography stage. However I do not see a clear colour scheme like the other two examples it is more subtle. The trend is all three of these magazines is the are extra photographs on the cover. I could use this to advertise Affliction also women dominate the cover.

Make up For Magazine

Her face structure make it very easy to put different things that would be suited to the type of magazine we are doing.

Make Up

To achieve the perfect look and ensure that it resembles someone glamorous and celebrity that is in films, I have in fact spent a lot of time in researching make up and seeing how to apply it to my models face. I looked on http://make-up.lifetips.com/ and found some good helpful information

"Choosing the right eye shadow product can be tricky, leaving you with tons of products that have only been used a couple times. Checking out eye shadow reviews allows you to learn from other women's successes (and mistakes). Read on to learn eye shadow tips for choosing the best products.
Cream eye shadows. Women in eye shadow reviews consistently rave about Bobbi Brown Long-Wear Cream Eye Shadow. Application is super easy – you can sweep the shadow onto your eyes with a few finger strokes, and if you want a more dramatic eye, you can use an eye shadow brush to create a stronger look.

Shadow Duos. Check out L'Oreal Paris HiP Concentrated Shadow Duo. This product is great for creating more depth in the eyes. The lighter color can be applied all over the lid and the deeper color in the creases to create a dramatic effect.

Eye shadow color palettes. Products like LORAC Showstopper Palette get high reviews for quality and versatility. Creating a daytime look is super easy with a variety of soft shades. And, you can layer on deeper shades in the evening to create a smoky affect."

These are the images I produced:

Font Research for Magazine

I had to do some more font research to find out which fonts best suited my magazine

I put the image I was going to use, and put different fonts on it to see which one would be best suited to my magazine.

In the end I managed to get the same font that matched my research magazine

Clothing For Magazine Cover

I wanted to incorporate something unique into my magazine, that speaks the message of the film. I researched various film actress photography to see what unique things they do to their artists. I found a photograph which I extremely liked, it showed how glamorous and famous the actress was just through what they she wearing, this idea was extremely appealing to me, and I used it in the making of the magazine.

The covers look very glamorous I decided to use newspaper to make a piece of clothing, to signify some new news or something that people would be missing out if they do not read. After taking these pictures I used Adobe photo shop to edit them and chose the one that I thought would be most appropriate for the film.

Editing Photographs

As part of making both the poster and the magazine editing pictures is key to making the final product.
Original Photograph
A filter is used to brighten colours. Each cast member has a distinct colour which is shown in their clothing. Which will help the audience familiarise with the characters in the film.
The photograph has been desaturated, which reflects the mood of the story line which is not so pleasant.
Instead of desaturating all the colour, a red/brown filter is used. In one of my research examples this has been used and it again is used to set a mood.

Adjustment to Plot

After a few filming shoots we decided to alter the plot a bit, and narrowed down the focus on certain members of the two rival groups. This helped us practically when organising shoots but more importantly when conveying emotion which is key to our film.

Creating the first draft

I wanted to start the trailer with a series of establishing shots, so that audience can get a feel of where the film set and the type of film it is. Beginning with a grave stone is a very strong statement and I will help captivate the audience immediately.

During the course of the trailer I want to add a black screen. This would add suspence to it to, the audience would want to watch more.

Adobe Photoshop

To desgin our film poster and magazine cover we are using this programme. Through Photoshop we can add text, use effects to change the look of the photograph. Using this particular programme helped our original photographs reach the level of our research examples. Applying different effects to the poster and cover can help set the mood of the product we advertising. For example our film is based on rough inner city life, so dark grim colours will be included in our ancillary tasks.

Theatrical poster process

We started of with this photograph, However as I started to place text onto the photograph, there was not enough background space to add all the text for a theatrical poster. There was limited space at the bottom of the picture. I did try to create more space by using a cloning tool however this still did not overcome the spacing issue at the bottom, the colour was not consistent when trying to clone the extra space. Then I did try the photo with a black and white filtering affect however I still wanted an element of colour to showcase the characters personality.

There was then a change of picture but there was still a spacing issue, also the colour was too bright not really showing the genre of the film. I repeated the cloning technique for the background and then separated the models from the graffiti background so I could apply different effects to the two.
